Lots of people have food restrictions for whatever reasons (allergies, religious restriction, diet) and in the past 2 years, each cook has disclosed whether their soup is made with an animal-based broth, or contains bacon, etc. This is a nice community event for January, and everyone has been very relaxed and personable! See everyone on Sunday!

Commenting just to bump this back up to the top of the list. If you want to take part in the Soup Swap Sunday your will need to make some soup now so you will have time to freeze it and bring to the swap! The soup deadline!

I guess it is just a matter of personal comfort level. I have attended every year, and truly enjoyed both meeting other JC residents, and their soups! During the swap, everyone goes around to let people know if there are ingredients in their soups to be careful with (allergy-type issues: shellfish, nuts, meats etc...)

Many of the swappers know each other from other groups in JC, others do not. Like I said, it is a matter of personal comfort level. You are right in that there has to be a level of trust. I welcome you to come check it out if you are interested, even without taking soup!

Thank you I may take you up on that I've always been kind of curious but did not attend because I did not want to come empty handed and had no interest leaving with anything. And yes ingredients are a huge factor for allergies. But trust is the biggest of them all.

I'm a bit skeptical on taking soup from strangers not sure of what is in there and what preperation what involved. It's not as if there were government health inspections in the kitchens where these soups were made. Plus if you send it by proxy you don't even get to meet the maker of said soup. It's a wonder you don't see bake sales at schools anymore.

Please help spread the word about the Soup Swap- even if you are not able to attend, you can make soup, and send a swapper in proxy!

Hope to see many of you there!

Please come to the 8th Annual Jersey City Soup Swap!

When: Sunday, January 26 from 1:30-2:30pm
Where: Grace Van Vorst Parish Hall 39 Erie Street on the corner of 2nd and Erie Streets

Why: Why? SOUP. That's why. There is also a fantastic book sale that goes on during this time, so make sure you bring a few bucks to pick up some good reads!

How: A Soup Swap is similar to a cookie exchange at the holidays. Make at least 4 quarts of soup ahead of time, and freeze it. Label your soup so others will know what is in it. There will be prizes for "Best Dressed" soup, as well as other categories. We will gather, introduce ourselves and our soups and then swap until there is no more soup on the table! Be adventurous, creative or get your grandmother to give up the secret family recipe for her flu-fighting chicken noodle! Nothing is better than getting home late from work on a cold winter night, not wanting to cook dinner, and finding a quart of homemade delicious soup waiting for you in your freezer!

Check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/JCSoupSwap or email jcsoupswap@gmail.com for any questions.

Please help spread the word!
