Cop punched, kicked in head
A Jersey City police officer was punched in the face and then kicked in the head early ??yesterday by a 28-year-old man who faces a slew of charges, police said yesterday. Julio Reyes, of Lexington Avenue, has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, obstructing a governmental function, and resisting arrest, Capt. Edgar Martinez said yesterday. Responding to a report of a large fight, police responded to Monmouth and Seventh streets at 1:15 a.m. yesterday, Martinez said. Cops ordered the group to disperse, but Reyes instead walked up to a police officer and shoved the officer, Martinez said. The officer radioed for backup and when a plainclothes officer got to the scene and identified himself as an officer, Reyes punched that officer in the face and kicked him in the head after he fell to the ground, Martinez said, adding the cop temporarily lost consciousness. It took several officers to subdue Reyes, who sustained a cut on his face and nose, Martinez said. Reyes has warrants out of Fort Lee and Jersey City, Martinez said. The officer was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center and released, he said.
