Tenant gets to stay after Jersey City inspects structure landlord says is risky By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal on November 16, 2012 at 8:40 AM, updated November 16, 2012 at 9:14 AM The tenant of a Jersey City brownstone whose landlord said she must vacate her apartment due to flooding related to Hurricane Sandy can remain in the residence for now, city officials have decided. City housing official Mark Redfield inspected the Grove Street brownstone yesterday, along with other city officials and a representative of the building?s owner. There were some structural issues found in the inspection, but nothing that would force the tenant to leave immediately, according to Redfield. Machcinski/The J Jersey Journal Coping with the historic oil that rose to the surface on the city?s east side when Hurricane Sandy struck, the Bayonne City Council approved three contracts yesterday to help address the problem. Yeah MDM that is strange. If you want to see a scary sight put 111 Avenue F, Bayonne, NJ in Goggle Map check out the number of tanks that are accross rt 440. Wow! That picture is before the Bayonne Crossings Shopping Center , I think a lot of those tanks are gone. But is what was in them really gone? Maybe that landlord is doing her a favor. OK she will miss the grand opening of Wonder Bagel in the Bayonne Crossings Shopping Center but at least she will have her health. Double whammy the already planted gas pipeline that runs along rt 440 is almost in her back yard.

From the article:
Dixon said his company owns five two-family homes on East 22nd Street in Bayonne, and all have to be condemned because of natural oil that rose up from the ground in the area after Sandy made landfall on October 29. Okay.. this one needs more explanation. 'Natural oil'? There be crude under Bayonne? Or was the property really, really contaminated with fuel oil prior to the storm?

Hudson County tenants say landlord using Hurricane Sandy-damage as excuse to evict them; landlord denies charge By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal Tenants of three Hudson County homes owned by the same Jersey City landlord are accusing him of using Hurricane Sandy to kick them out of their homes. Dixon Leasing, the landlord, denies the charge, with its CEO saying Sandy legitimately left the buildings in question structurally unsound. But tenants who spoke to The Jersey Journal said Dixon attempted before Sandy to raise their rents, and they believe the company just wants to get new tenants in who will pay more.
