New Kellogg Garden...It's the same owners from the original restaurant...Rt 440 in the Pathmark strip mall. These owners have been around for about 30 years!

Robin: I think I've been to that Vietnamese restaurant before, but I can't remember the name of it for some reason.
Cde: I agree that fried noodles and soup are about as authentic as microwave dinners with ice cream. Heights: Where was the Canton? Seems like it was before my time. Nemo: Secaucus isn't too far, but it will have to be a weekend trip probably. Thanks for the advice and commentary, everyone!

I know it's a bit out of the way, but I've recently discovered China Chef in Secaucus. It's a sit down family style restaurant with an extensive menu, similar to Wo Hop or Hop Kee in Chinatown and without having to deal with heading into the city. I've had some great dishes there and they also do dim sum in the mornings, though I haven't tried that yet. About a 20 min ride from Jersey City, hope this helps.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Big Chef on Jersey Avenue a few times. I think their lunch menu extends to Saturday.
I've found that if a Chinese restaurant uses white meat for Kung Pao Chicken and serves fried noodles with their soup they usually suck. I'm also leery of pot stickers that are brown all over and arrive at the table quickly.

1. The Vietnamese place on Newark Avenue (the one over by Madame Claude's, not Cafe Saigon), half the menu is Cantonese style dishes.
2. Confucius over in Newport is actually not too bad. Robin.

Good homestyle Chinese restaurant?

Been frequenting Grand Sichuan by the Grove St PATH lately and have started to become immune to all the spicy fare there... In the interest of giving my stomach ulcers a break, does anyone know of a decent, semi-authentic alternative in the area without having to trek across the Hudson into Chinatown? I'm assuming the answer is no, but in the off chance... Thanks in advance, y'all.
