Clearly this has to do with New Yorkers incorrectly viewing the Statue of Liberty as theirs.

I have a Jersey # (908-XXX-XXXX).
After doing a Google search, I found a news article about this issue: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/02/0 ... calls-misdirected-to-nyc/

Actually, most cell phones released since 2005 support E911 and will provide emergency services with a location accurate within 300 meters. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_9-1-1#Wireless_enhanced_911

What phone number are you calling from ? I bet it's a Nyc cell phone number that is connecting you to thier 911 call center. Try (201) 547-5477 if it happens again. This is the Jersey City police department phone line.

A couple Sundays ago my girlfriend had a bad fall on her bike in Liberty State Park and I had to call 911 for an ambulance. My first call was dropped before I could send the operator our location (first time I've EVER had a dropped call). I called back twice after that and was told that I would have to call the NJPD because my emergency was in NJ, and then I was swiftly disconnected. It wasn't until this point that I realized all my calls were being routed to NYC. Not until my fourth call was I able to get an ambulance dispatched.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent 911 cell phone calls from being directed to NYC? It was incredibly frustrating to have the operators hang up on me twice.
