Workers were attending to a downed power line on 3rd St between Erie and Jersey around 7pm yesterday. For safety they shut off power to the entire block, so Key Foods and the Laundromat both had to close down for a little while. I felt bad for the people who had their laundry cycles shut off half way...

(Also, hopefully Key Foods will have a better policy than C-Town when it comes to disposing of any unfrozen meat or ice cream!)

Eight-block area in Downtown Jersey City without power

By Ken Thorbourne/The Jersey Journal

An eight-block area in Downtown Jersey City is without power, according to Fire Director Armando Roman.

The area runs from 2nd to 5th streets, and from Jersey Avenue to Manila Avenue.

The area includes 396 Manila Ave., which is seniors building that is part of Villa Boriquen, he said.

Tenants at 184 4th St. told The Jersey Journal tonight that they have been without power since 5 p.m. and the building has no back-up generator.

PSE&G crews are on the scene, but have given no timetable for fixing the problem, Roman said.

A PSE&G spokeswoman said the company has 8,000 customers without power statewide, 5,700 of them in Passaic County. She did not have any numbers specific to Hudson County.

JJ piece?
