Did the La Fraks state that ? I believe the entrance is more passive than for security. What better way to enter then via the J.C. Greenway. And yes a plesant walk to and from Hoboken.

They have the gates on the western side locked to everyone because the LeFraks are still very afraid of Jersey City, but on the east side along the waterfront its open.

I believe it is open to everyone, the park is well maintained and patrolled, the "beach" is open now with a view of the river, great on a sunny day, very kid friendly.

My understanding was that it was a private park for only Newport residence. Am I wrong? I believe you need a key to get in but of course you can always follow someone in.

Is that the new urban beach-thing across from Target? Closest light rail stop is probably Hoboken. It's not too far from the pedestrian bridge. Definitely a more pleasant walk than from the mall.
