Crash on bridge injures three

Three people were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on the Shawn Carson & Robert Nguyen Memorial Bridge in Jersey City early yesterday, police reports said.

A 26-year-old Union City driver who was heading east across the span, formerly known as the Lincoln Highway Bridge, told cops that a car cut him off around 12:40 a.m., reports said.

As a result, his Volkswagen went into a 360-degree spin and collided with the guardrail, reports said.

A 24-year-old man driving an Acura told cops he left his car stopped on the bridge and got out to help the Volkswagen driver, reports said.

But then an Audi plowed into the Acura?s passenger-side rear, reports said.

The 28-year-old woman driving the Audi and her two passengers were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center complaining of back and neck pains, reports said.

The driver of the Volkswagen was issued a summons for driving without a license, reports said.



Man slashed in neck with bottle

The throat of a 31-year-old Jersey City man was slashed with a bottle during a street fight early Saturday, police reports said.

Called to Seaview Avenue near Ocean Avenue at 2:48 a.m. on the report of a stabbing, police met with the Lembeck Avenue man who was bleeding from his neck, reports said.

The victim, who appeared to be intoxicated, was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center for a non-life threatening laceration, reports said.

He told police his opponent slashed his neck with a broken bottle during a fight and then fled, reports said.



Jersey City man shot in back

A 22-year-old Jersey City man is in stable condition after being shot once in the back early Saturday morning, police reports said.

Police were called to Bidwell Avenue at 12:49 a.m. where they met a woman who told them she heard gunshots and then saw a man running south on Martin Luther King Drive, police said.

The victim was then found in a main hallway of an apartment building at Wegman Parkway and Martin Luther King Drive, reports said.

The victim, who was unable to speak to police, was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated for a single gunshot wound to the center of his back, just above his kidneys, police said. He was listed in a stable condition, police said.

2 men fight over who is tougher

An argument over who was tougher ended with one man lying unconscious after he was punched in his face, according to Jersey City police reports.

Police were called to Claremont Avenue between Kennedy Boulevard and West Side Avenue at 10:17 p.m. Saturday on the report of an assault.

Cops found a man on the ground, unconscious, with a small pool of blood around his head, and people tending to him, reports said.

Witnesses said the prone man and his attacker had been arguing about who was tougher before he was floored with one punch in the face, reports said. The assailant who was in his 20s then fled, reports said.

The victim was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. When police checked on his condition later, they were told by doctors that he was still unconscious, likely due to the high amount of alcohol found in his system, reports said.
