Teen stabbed during carnival in Jersey City Heights park, police say

A Jersey City teenager was stabbed during a fight on the basketball courts in Pershing Field park during a carnival last night, police say.

A Jersey City teen was stabbed at the Pershing Field carnival last night after he was challenged to a fight and began getting the upper hand on his attacker, officials said.

Officers responding to Christ Hospital after the 10 p.m. stabbing met the 17-year-old Belmont Avenue boy who had a bloody bandage around his forearm, reports said, adding that his uncle was with him.

The boy said he was meeting his uncle and cousins at the fair when he heard that a group from Duncan Avenue might be on its way, reports said. He was on the basketball courts when he was approached by a male who said, "Do you have a problem with me?" reports said.

The victim said there was no problem but his attacker began punching him and the pair started to fight, reports said.

"When the actor was starting to lose, the actor pulled out a black folding pocket knife with a silver blade and slashed the victim on the left forearm," reports said.

The wounded 17-year-old found his uncle, who took him to the hospital, reports said, adding that the uncle had to leave so police stayed with the victim until his parents could arrange for child care and respond to the hospital.

Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

The Carnival opens tonight, April 12th and closes Sunday, April 22nd.

Tonight 6pm - ???
$20 bands for unlimited rides (starts at 6pm but don't know when the bands end)

Tomorrow, Friday the 13th
2pm till ???
No $20 bands I'm told

Saturday and Sunday, 14th and 15th
2pm to ???
$20 bands from 2pm till 6pm

Repeats the following week with exactly the same schedule.

Each ride costs 4 or 5 tickets (each ticket is a dollar). Without the band it becomes very expensive very quickly.

The band expires at 6pm on the weekends. If you purchase it at 5:30 you will have to start paying for rides at 6pm.
