Why not just go to Home Depot and rent a carpet cleaning machine for half a day? It's easy, inexpensive and I can't see how your landlord can object.

I highly recommend A&K Carpet and Upholstery. The owner, Jay, is very honest and hardworking and really knows his stuff when it comes to cleaning. Since it's a small business, you aren't paying overhead.
He's done wonders for some major problems of mine and I know he professionally handles jobs big to small. (516) 359-0559 http://www.cleancarpetsny.com/

I'm actually looking for someone to do wall-to-wall shampooing. Have found:
New Jersey Carpet Cleaning http://www.jersey-carpetcleaning.com/ ... ersey-carpetcleaning.html Carpet Cleaning Jersey City http://www.carpet-cleaning-jerseycity.com/ Jersey City Carpet Cleaning http://www.jerseycitycarpetcleaning.com/ Has anyone used any of these guys in the past?

Thanks for the post. I was having a hard time finding anything other than the big internet-based rug cleaners. Just dropped off a rug at Duffy's. FYI, if you're willing to drive to Bogota, in Bergen Co., you get a big discount for dropping off your own rugs - 20%. If you have enough rugs it's worth it.
I'll re-post when I get my rug back about quality, but the price was 1/2 to 1/3 of what I found elsewhere. $56 including tax for a 3 x 10 oriental runner.

Can anyone recommend a good reasonable carpet cleaner. I don't wan't wall-to-wall shampooing but rather to have someone come andd pick up a 5 x 8 Oriental-Type (not valuable but beautiful) wash it, dry it and bring it back rolled up?
It's too nice to toss but too dirty to keep/move as-is. It used to be commonly done, but not so much today. It's a niice carpet and I'd try it myself if I owned a home but Lefrak would blow a fuse if tenants started hosing off their carpets on HIS grounds. Doing it IN the apartment seems a non-starter. TIA.
