Jersey City police charge fourth suspect in rash of car burglaries
Monday, November 28, 2011, 7:10 PM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal Jersey City police have charged Gerald Moore, 58, with car burglary. Jersey City police continue to make arrests Downtown after beefing up patrols in response to a wave of car burglaries, officials said. Gerald Moore, 58, of St. Lucy's Shelter on Grove Street, was arrested Sunday night after officers on patrol spotted him shining a flashlight into car windows at 10th and Erie streets, officials said. Police followed Moore, and after he quickened his pace, they stopped him and saw an electric cord hanging out the bottom of his jacket which turned out to be connected to a GPS, reports said. The cops returned to where they first saw Moore and found two cars with shattered passenger side windows, reports said, adding that one of the owners identified the GPS as hers. Moore told the officers he broke the windows using a screwdriver he had tossed just before being stopped and police found it at the curb, reports said. Moore is the fourth person charged with burglarizing cars Downtown over the pass week, officials said. He was in prison from July 18, 2008 to Aug. 16, 2010 for three counts of burglary, corrections records say.
