In that neighborhood there are no red lights. MLK Drive and you're waiting at a red light, that can't be a good thing.

Jersey City woman tells police her car was stopped at light and had two grandkids inside when bullets hit front end; cops help fix flat, find live bullets as well as casings at scene

By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

A Jersey City woman?s car was struck by gunfire in Greenville Monday night while she was stopped at a red light with her two young grandchildren in the vehicle, officials said.

The 50-year-old Danforth Avenue woman flagged down police around 9 p.m. and said she was at Martin Luther King Drive and Bidwell Avenue when she heard gunshots and saw sparks coming from the front end of her car, reports said.

She said she became fearful for her 5- and 7-year-old grandchildren and hit the gas to get out of the line of fire, reports said.

Police found a bullet hole on the driver?s side of the front bumper and the driver?s side front tire was flat, reports said, adding that officers, with the help of a resident, took the flat off and put on the spare.
Officers searched the area and found three live .45-caliber bullets and one spent .45-caliber casing, reports said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Jersey City tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
