The Cat Practice in Manhattan on 5th Ave & 20th St. I've been going there for more than 15 years. I love them, and my cat loves staying with them.
It's a lot less stressful for the cats, since no dogs are around. And they let the healthy cats out for exercise daily. The last time I was there, a woman was picking up her 20-year-old cat who she had boarded with them.

I second finding a cat sitter to administer fluids - much less stressful on kitty. I have a kitty with kidney disease too, and my pet sitter is just great and very experienced with administering the sub cutaneous fluids. I had been using her for years before the kidney problems though, so my cat already felt comfortable with her. Search 4 Paws Nanny Service or PM me for contact info. Downtown Vet also gave me the name of a former vet tech who makes house calls. You can call them and ask for her contact info. Good luck!

Would you feel comfortable with a cat sitter? Staying at home is always least stressful for cats. Mark Blanchard, aka The Cat Man, is a very devoted caretaker. I bet he has experience with administering IV fluids.
He doesn't have a website, but I will PM you his email address. If not, Secaucus Animal Hospital is great. I've never boarded a pet there, but the staff is very warm, take great care of everyone.

I had a special needs dog and when I had to board her I used Secaucus Animal Hospital. They took great care of my big giant puppy. When I picked her up she looked great, was happy and in love with the staff. I would recommend them without any hesitation.

Vet boarding for old cat

Our cat is 18, has kidney problems and requires IV fluids -- we have a vacation coming up shortly and do not want to leave that responsibility on a friend or neighbor.
Any suggestions on a vet with the least traumatic boarding for cats?
