Developing: Jersey City experiencing major power outages, flooding during this morning's commute
Thursday, September 08, 2011, 10:17 AM By Adam Maher/The Jersey Journal Please be advised of major power outages in the areas of Pavonia & Garrison avenues in Jersey City this morning. It has been confirmed by Executive Director Dan Becht of the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) that Jersey City is experiencing extreme flooding and major power outages this morning. Traffic lights and residences near Pavonia Ave & Garrison Ave are at the highest risk of power loss and floods due to major power lines down, and inordinate amounts of rainfall at the location. The flooding is being caused by what Director Becht is calling a "triple threat" flood system. The term "triple threat" refers to three flood-causing phenomena happening at the same time. Today's triple threat consists of a new moon, a high tide, and an inordinate storm surge causing heavy amounts of rainfall. Becht said that affected residents can expect a drop in water levels as the tide rolls out, which is set to occur at 11 a.m. PSE&G has been called multiple times in regards to this matter, but they have yet to pick up the phone.
