No area of Jersey City is safe, there are only those areas that are safer than others.

JSQ is actually very safe.We live3 blocks away near Newark ave, and have never had a problem.My wife takes the Path to work everyday and sometimes comes home late and aside for an occasional crazy person or homeless who are near buy she has never had a problem.Also there are always a lot of people in the area even at night by India square.

If your first priority is being safe, DO NOT move to the Journal Square area. I know women who have been followed by suspicious characters from the PATH station to their apartment. JSQ might be tons better than Greenville or Bergen-Lafayette, but there's still a huge difference between JSQ and downtown, not that downtown is crime free.

In my experience, there is quite a large number of nursing and medical students and staff around the Grove Street area.

A cheaper alternative is the area around Journal Square.

If you have a car, you also need to find a parking space too.

Paulus Hook, Newport Pavonia, Hamilton Park, Van Vorst Park, Liberty Harbor (basically anywhere in downtown JC - Newport, Grove or Exchange street stops are all pretty safe).

I am looking for a 1 BR apartment in Jersey City. Although I have a car, I would like easy access to transportation to and from University Hospital in Newark.

What areas in Jersey City are safe and I should concentrate my search on?
