View Larger Map Police investigating two incidents of shots being fired in same neighborhood in 24 hours; one man arrested; one man wounded Published: Sunday, August 21, 2011, 8:40 PM By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal Jersey City Police are investigating two incidents in which shots were fired in the same neighborhood within a 24-hour period. A man was arrested for weapons possession, after a bullet crashed through a Jersey City bedroom window during a gun fight in a parking lot, reports said. The location of the incident was close to the spot where a man was shot in the leg about 24 hours earlier. At 1:48 a.m. Sunday police were called to a public housing complex on Bright and Merseles Streets where they spoke to a couple who said they were watching TV, when they heard multiple gun shots from the parking lot of the complex, followed by something crashing through the second floor bedroom window, reports said. They found a bullet hole in the window, reports said. Police then got reports that two men were shooting at each other during a chase, reports said. Police found eight shells casings at the side entrance to the parking lot and four more shell casing in the middle of the parking lot, reports said. Police then searched four men who were standing in the courtyard of Merseles Court during the investigation, reports said. Police then searched the home of one of the men, Jorge Luis Diggs, 26, of Merseles Court, where they found a Walther P99 handgun and Colt .25 caliber handgun on a shelf, reports said. Diggs was arrested and charged with weapons possession pending further investigation. In the incident early Saturday morning, a 37-year-old Jersey City man was shot in the leg while he was standing under a train track bridge on Bright Street between Fremont and Merseles streets with a large group of people. He told police he heard some gunshots, reports said. The victim said he began to run with the crowd when he realized he was shot in the leg, reports said. He then rode his bicycle to Halladay Street and called the police, reports said. The victim who suffered non-life threatening injuries was treated for a gun shot wound to the upper left thigh at Jersey City Medical Center, reports said.
