View Larger Map Raid of Jersey City home finds two dozen marijuana plants, cocaine and a loaded shotgun, prosecutor says Published: Thursday, August 04, 2011, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal Two dozen marijuana plants, a loaded shotgun, and more than a half an ounce of suspected cocaine were found when police forced their way into the ?fortified? residence in Jersey City, reports said. When police entered the Manning Avenue home of Anthony Rodriguez Jr., 35, they found more than 80 grams of suspected cocaine, a ?grow room? where marijuana plants were being cultivated, the shotgun, and 40 hollow-point bullets, the criminal complaint says. Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said Rodriguez was arrested Tuesday morning after information gathered by investigators led to several weeks of surveillance at the home. He said Rodriguez appears to have been a wholesale drug distributor, based on the allegations. A 5-year-old boy also occasionally resided at the location where the loaded shotgun was found unsecured in the living room, DeFazio said. That led to Rodriguez being charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, the prosecutor said, adding the boy was not home when the warrant was executed. The marijuana plants were growing in the basement, where police found grow lamps, a ventilation system, soil and drug processing and packaging paraphernalia, the complaint says. Hudson County Superior Court Judge Lourdes Santiago set Rodriguez?s cash or bond bail at $350,000, and also ordered that a hearing be held to ensure any money used to post bail does not come from a nefarious source.
