Two 16-year-old Jersey City boys were arrested after a chase late Sunday in the Greenville section of the city and charged with robbing a 61-year-old Chinese food delivery man, officials said yesterday.
The Eastern Parkway boy and Old Bergen Road boy were arrested around 11 p.m. in the area of Lembeck Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard and charged with robbery and obstructing a government function, reports said.
Officers on patrol at Linden Avenue and Old Bergen Road saw a male carrying a plastic bag running toward Scott Street and then saw the delivery man pointing and saying "They robbed me," reports said.
He told police his attackers punched him in the head and took his rain coat and $24 worth of Chines food, reports said, adding that he did not appear injured.
The cops quickly spotted three boys walking on Greenville Avenue and noted they appeared very nervous, were sweating profusely and looking over their shoulders at the cruiser, reports said. The officers stopped and ordered the boys to stopped but two of them took off running, triggering the chase leading to their arrests, reports said.
The victim identified the two boys as his attackers, reports said, adding that when police searched the area for the boy who had complied with their order to stop, they came up empty-handed. The officers recovered a plastic bag containing the victim's raincoat on Greenville Avenue, reports said.
