I would think if it is built in AC then the landlord is responsible for maintaining it -- but with window units it would depend on your lease terms and also on who bought and installed the unit.

Great info. Does anyone know what the requirements are for landlords to maintain cooling/heating units if they are built into the rental space? Are they required to fix? Thanks...

BEATING THE HEAT IN HUDSON

To help residents cope with today?s high temperatures, several cooling sites have been opened in Hudson County. The sites are generally opened when temperatures soar to 90 degrees and above.

JERSEY CITY

Five Corners Library, 678 Newark Ave., during library hours, Monday, noon to 8 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jersey City Main Library, 472 Jersey Ave., during library hours, Monday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pershing Field Community Center, Summit Avenue and Pershing Plaza, during regular hours, Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pershing Field Pool, Summit Avenue and Pershing Plaza Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.

Jersey City is also running water sprinkler systems Monday to Friday, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the following parks:

Dr. Lena Edwards Park, 325 Johnston Ave.; Arlington Park, 785 Grand St.; Audubon Park, 103-129 Bergen Ave.; Virginia Avenue Park, 74-80 Virginia Ave.; Woodland Avenue Park, 259-265 Linden Ave.; Wilkinson Avenue Park, 146-152 Wilkinson Ave.; Hamilton Park, McWilliams Place (between Ninth Street and Pavonia Avenue); LaPointe Park, 90-92 Dekalb Ave.; Rev. Ercel Webb/Lafayette Park, Lafayette Street (between Maple Street and Van Horne); Terrace Avenue Park, Thorne Street and Terrace Avenue; and Roberto Clemente/ Enos Jones Field, Eighth Street and Brunswick Street.
