View Larger Map Boy, 16, charged with possessing gun Monday, May 23, 2011 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A 16-year-old Jersey City boy tossed a gun while being chased by police Saturday night, officials said. At 11:25 p.m. officers on patrol at Martin Luther King Drive and Kearny Avenue on reports of drug dealing saw two 16-year-old boys on bicycles and one of them reached into his waistband, reports said. Suspecting the boy had a weapon, the cops followed them to Orient and Rose avenues where both took off, reports said, adding that one boy threw the gun, a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson, into a front yard as he ran. Police said that when the boy with the gun was caught he flailed his arms and punched at the officers. He was charged with resisting arrest and weapons offenses, including possession of a firearm by a minor, reports said. The second boy was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a government function, reports said. The boy with the semi-automatic handgun was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of a sprained ankle and remanded to the Hudson County Youth House in Secaucus, reports said.
