View Larger Map Jersey City police say Heights man believed to be supplier of area's street-level dealers arrested at home after month-long investigation; at risk for 20 years in prison if convicted Friday, May 20, 2011 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A month-long investigation led to the arrest of a Jersey City Heights man after police found more than 195 grams of suspected cocaine in his vehicle and home, officials said yesterday. Edwin V. Silva, 43, of Oakland Avenue at Prospect Street, faces up to 20 years in prison following his arrest after the execution of a search warrant on May 3 by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office's Gang Task Force, officials said. Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said that based on a tip, investigators conducted surveillance on Silva's residence and vehicle for about a month before the arrest. Investigators believe Silva was selling cocaine to street-level dealers in the Heights, DeFazio said of the allegations. Silva was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in a quantity of five ounces or more, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine within 500 feet of public property, DeFazio said, adding that his bail was set at $125,000 cash or bond. The street value of the drugs seized is about $8,000, according to Jersey City police. The prosecutor said officers of the Hudson County Sheriff's Office participated in the investigation.
