Jersey City Ward Tour, June 4, 11 am, Exchange Place. Rain date June 11.

Bike JC announces its second annual Jersey City Ward Tour, a fifteen-mile group bike ride through all six wards of Jersey City on June 4. The Tour starts and finishes at Exchange Place, leaving at 11 am. Registration is required and is free online at bikejc.org.

The festival at Tour?s End features food and beer; live music; a nonprofit showcase; and a BMX demonstration hosted by Grove Street Bicycles. Riders and non-riders alike are invited to Exchange Place from 1-5 pm on June 4.

Bike JC is a citizen-based advocacy organization that aims to make Jersey City streets welcoming for bicyclists, by promoting bike-friendly policies, including bike lanes; bicycle education; and traffic law enforcement. The Jersey City Ward Tour (JCWT) brings together recreational, avid, and first-time urban cyclists on a festive group ride.

The Tour starts downtown and travels up Montgomery to Grand Street, heading south on Garfield Ave in Greenville, where it hooks back north via Danforth and Mallory to Lincoln Park. Exiting the park, it heads north along Kennedy Blvd to North Street and Palisade Avenues in the Heights, eventually coming down Newark Ave and Seventh Street to end up back downtown and finish at Exchange Place.

On June 4, Ward Tour participants can take advantage of the following discounts offered by our sponsors.
Easy Riders JC: $5 off all rentals for Ward Tour (booked prior to June 4)
Pole Position Race Way: $10 off of a single race and10% off the annual membership price (available June 5 as well)
Madame Claude Caf?: Free crepe with dinner
Madame Claude Wine: 5% off on any bottle $15 or under
Satis Bidtro: Buy1 gelato, get the second 50% off

Bike JC?s Second Annual Ward Tour is sponsored by the Jersey City Independent, the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District, the Hudson Transportation Management Association, Madame Claude Caf?, Madame Claude Wines, Hamilton Park Montessori School, Easy Riders JC, Grove Street Bicycles, Satis Bistro, Skinner?s Loft, Institute for Personal Growth, Captain Al?s, Pole Position Raceway, and Rock-it Docket.

Riders must be 10 and up to participate and must wear helmets. We encourage younger cyclists to head to the Hudson TMA?s annual Stride and Ride Bike Rodeo in Jersey City?s Lincoln Park, from 10 am to 4 pm.

I've just now signed up to volunteer for the tour, so I don't know what went into that decision. Possibly it has to do with making the tour longer, and trying to make it move faster, this year.

Apparently kids age 10 and up can ride solo in the Tour, and younger ones can be carried on adults' bikes.

The organizers are suggesting that younger kids who want to ride solo can instead attend the Bike Rodeo that's being held in Lincoln Park on the same day, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.:

Saddened to see that kids are not allowed this year.

Could you not have an alternative, shorter route for kids?

Robin.
