View Larger Map Jersey City police say two ex-cons arrested in apartment break-in and burglary Friday, March 11, 2011 Two Jersey City felons were busted on burglary charges after police saw them enter a building with empty hands and then walk out carrying bags that held a safe, electronics equipment, and other items, officials said yesterday. Wilfred Nunez, 43, of Newark Avenue, and Eric Gonzalez, 47, of Bergen Avenue, were arrested at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan Avenue and Duncan Court and charged with burglary and theft, reports said. Officers on patrol saw Gonzalez on Kennedy Boulevard and recognized him because a warrant for his arrest for the alleged theft of boxes dropped off by a UPS truck had been issued Tuesday based on surveillance video, reports said. The cops saw Gonzalez meet with Nunez and the pair entered a residence and left minutes later carrying bags, reports said. The bags contained numerous items, including a safe, X-box, and a laptop computer, reports said. They were taken into custody and officers found the door to an apartment in the building had been forced, reports said, adding that a resident responded and identified the items in the bags. Nunez has served a prison term for burglary, and Gonzalez has served two prison terms for three counts of burglary, according to records. MICHAELANGELO CONTE
