View Larger Map Jersey City woman, 83, identifies suspect in purse snatching after he's seized by Bayonne police Saturday, January 08, 2011 A Jersey City man was charged with robbery after stealing a Jersey City woman's purse, police said. The 83-year-old victim told police she was walking on Merritt Street toward Ocean Avenue to catch a bus about 4 p.m. on Wednesday when someone came up from behind and grabbed her pocketbook, knocking her to the ground and breaking the strap off her purse. A Jersey City man who witnessed the attack followed the accused attacker, Terrance M. Ceasear, 29, of Dwight Street, into Bayonne, where he was caught by the Bayonne Police Department, reports said. Authorities said Ceasear matched the description given by the witness and was identified by the witness. When Ceasear saw the officers on East 51st Street, he threw the black purse into the back of a parked pickup truck and ran, police said. While Ceasear was detained, officers recovered the purse, which contained the ID of the victim and other miscellaneous items, reports said. The victim did not suffer any injuries and was able to positively identify her pocketbook, reports said. Ceasear was booked and sent to the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny.
