Jersey City police say large amount of cocaine seized on street and in home and two arrests made
Wednesday, November 03, 2010 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Jersey City police seized $150,000 to $200,000 worth of suspected cocaine and arrested two men on numerous drug charges in Greenville Friday night, officials announced yesterday. Michael A Banks, 37, of Woodward Street, and Olushola S. Rotilu, 31, of Union Street, were charged with drug possession, drug possession with intent to distribute near a school, and drug possession with intent to distribute near public property, reports said. Undercover officers were following Banks when he double-parked his Mercedes on Storms Avenue at about 6 p.m. and Rotilu jumped in, reports said. Rotilu quickly got out and drove away in a Lexus, but he was arrested on Jewett Avenue and police found he had nine bags of suspected cocaine, reports said. Banks drove around and was arrested when he returned to Storms Avenue, and police found four cell phones and $330 in his car, reports said. Banks told police cocaine was hidden in a closet at his residence and he signed a consent form for a search, reports said. Inside the closet, police found a black bag with more than 4 pounds of suspected cocaine, a scale, and police also seized a number of keys, including one that appeared to belong to a safe deposit box, reports said. Rotilu was charged based on the nine bags of suspected cocaine police said he was carrying; and Banks was charged in connection to the 2 kilos found in his closet and for allegedly selling the nine bags to Rotilu, reports said. Police said they did not release information on the arrests sooner due to the ongoing investigation.
