View Larger Map Friday, October 29, 2010 Charged with theft by force A Union City man has been charged with robbing a man inside a Jersey City Heights apartment building, reports said. The suspect, Richard Javier, 27, of Summit Avenue, had been hanging around with the son of the victim's neighbor, reports said. Javier was arrested at about 12:30 a.m. on Paterson Plank Road and charged with committing the Hague Street robbery minutes earlier, reports said. Javier was with Ted W. Peguero, 23, of Summit Avenue in Union City, at the time of the arrest and police also took Peguero into custody after he dropped a small bag of suspected marijuana when he saw the officers approaching, reports said. The 23-year-old victim said he walked into his building and saw Javier sitting on the steps of an interior staircase with the son of the victim's neighbor, reports said. The victim said he greeted his neighbor's son and as he tried to get to his apartment Javier asked him for money, grabbed him and pushed him into a wall, reports said. The victim handed over an iPhone and $10 before running from the building and calling police, reports said, adding that he later identified Javier as the man who robbed him. The victim told police Peguero was not present at the time of the robbery, reports said. MICHAELANGELO CONTE
