Thanks for all the info!

PS Call me old fashioned, but I still like shopping in real stores, vs internet, where I can touch and feel the stuff. Also, this is the first time we're fixing windows ourselves, I'd like to go to a place where I can easily return un-used stuff in case we don't need it / got the wrong parts.

Also, I thought I may have had a problem with the tilt tube balance when the window kept falling but in addition to the latch I needed the pegs on the bottom of the window that hold it into the track were bent and out of the track.

I just tapped them straight with a hammer and was able to get them back in the track. I would check this first before getting the other parts.

I recently had a similar problem with a double hang window that was falling out of the track. No place including Lowes/Home Depot really had any window parts. They were obviously just interested in selling you a new window. I also came across the website listed above and it was a godsend. It was becoming frustrating to think I might have to get a new window which with installation could be several hundred just because a $7 tilt latch was broken.

The site said that delivery could take a few few weeks which seemed like a long time especially considering shipping and handling was as much as the part that I ordered. I was pleasantly surprised to have the part come in like 3 days so this was a much cheaper option than the new window!

Why not order them from the posted site?

I'm surprised HD or Lowes didn't have them.
Depends on what size you need, but Downtown Hdwr on Newark used to stock some.
(As well as the tool to hold and twist them, though a small pair of vicegrips works.)

Does anyone know where I can get "Tilt Tube Balance" (like the ones here:
http://www.allaboutdoors.com/index.php?cPath=85_105_343)? These are used for fixing windows that won't stay up (i.e. when I open the windows, they keep sliding down).

I've checked Lowes and Home Depot, and they don't sell them.

Does anyone know where are the other hardware stores in the area, and where I can actually get them (besides ordering online)?

thanks much.

J
