It does sound a little suspicious.
I have never heard the expression ?Run your jewels? in a JC mugging before. The proper expressions would be ?Yo run your pockits?, ?Gimme all you got?s!? Either way it is sad. .

12:30 am and walking down the street wearing 60K worth of stuff and the guy who robs you says "Run your jewels" which makes it clear the perp knew what the victim was wearing.
I'm calling major BS (Insurance fraud) on this story or a dope walking home drunk from a bar wearing and showing his stuff.

Jersey City man robbed of $59K in jewelry
A Jersey City man was robbed of nearly $60,000 in jewelry on a Downtown street in the early morning hours Saturday, officials said. At 12:30 a.m., officers responded to Columbus Drive and Brunswick Street and the 31 year-old Montgomery Street resident said a man approached him and pointed a silver revolver at him, reports said. The robber said ?Run your jewels,? and the victim told police he handed over a watch, chain and bracelet valued at $59,000, reports said. Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL. All calls will be kept confidential. ********************* From the Jersey Journal.
