View Larger Map View Larger Map $2,000 bank heist in Jersey City after robber strikes out at first bank he goes to Friday, June 11, 2010 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Jersey City police are on the trail of a bank robber who didn't get a dime at one bank yesterday but went straight to a second bank and got away with more than $2,000, officials said. The man entered Bank of America at Kennedy Boulevard and Harrison Avenue at 9:03 a.m. and passed a note saying he had a gun and ordering the teller to hand over $100s, $50s and $20s, reports said, adding verbally, "Move quick and don't be stupid." But the teller quickly locked her money drawer and walked from her window to the bank manager, who hit the alarm as the robber fled the bank and headed east on Harrison, reports said. Police said at 9:45 a.m. the man walked into Capital One Bank, at West Side and Virginia avenues, where he again passed a note saying he was robbing the bank. This time the man got away with $2,030, reports said. Officials at both banks turned over security video to responding police detectives and FBI agents, reports said. Last night, police said the investigation was active and they were following leads. The teller at the Bank of America described the robber as being of average size, clean shaven and in his early 30s, reports said, adding that he wore a do-rag over his braids and a purple Yankee cap. Anyone with information on the bank robberies is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
