Probe finds NJ lawmaker works 2 jobs, gets disability
(06/10/10) EDISON - A Kane In Your Corner investigation has discovered a New Jersey lawmaker is collecting disability even though she works two different jobs. Viola Richardson makes $130,000 a year as a Jersey City councilwoman and a program monitor at the Hudson County jail. Richardson also gets a $41,000 disability pension that taxpayers are paying for. The state determined that she is "100-percent disabled" from her old job as a Jersey City cop. She says she feels pain every day and is entitled to the pension. Jerry Cantrell, who runs the New Jersey Taxpayers Association, calls the findings "an abuse of the public trust." Earlier this week, Kane In Your Corner reported about Assemblyman Dave Rible, a former police officer, who the state's pension board said was "totally and permanently disabled." The investigation found Rible, who receives a $54,000 pension, still competes in races and works out a gym. He insists that he is not taking advantage of the system.
