Due to popular demand we have started an Arts and Entertainment Forum. Thanks to OneSkirt for being so persistant and sorry for my being so unresponsive.

Please use this forum, and please no posting the same information in multiple places and limit advertising of commercial establishments.

I guess we could just start some renegade social/arts/entertainment threads and hope WebFalcon doesn't swoop in and clean them up.

Falcon - in the words of Morrisey, "How soon is now??"

Preeeettty pleeeeeeaaaassse...with sugar on top! We need this spot on the boards. It would encourage people to organize outtings in a more frequent and informal sense.

I was informed recently that there was a dog show last year in Hamilton Park. I live in Hamilton Park and I didn't even know about it! And they had an evening with Shakesphear which was poorly attended. What a shame!

I'm not involved with the Shakesphear event that I understand goes around to the different parks to perform, but I did know about it. I saw the info. online and could have posted it for others to see. But it isn't approprirate for me to post this info. on the event calendar, because I'm not the organizer.

check this out, minnie

I agree with the concept of people discussing events, and this is happening now right here..

Anyone can post a comment about an event, simply go to the page of that event and post a comment. The most recent comments are listed on the homepage under the most recent Message Forum posts.

I agree on the way the calendar postings are filtered and displayed. However, I have found through participation on other boards that it is helpful to have an event specific place on the board where some threads can be started about specific events or outtings. This helps generate interest among people to attend, discuss who is going where, etc. I just think it would foster a bit more socializing and community among us. I have lived in the neighborhood for 9 years, but I don't know very many JC residents. I know I like going out locally, and I'd love to make some more friends with which to do that.

Plus having that event forum will actually keep the board less cluttered and easier to browse beacause there will now be a specific home for event/ outting related chat.

This is a good idea and we may add this forum in the future, for now these items can be placed in the General Forum. Adding another forum will make browsing not as easy as with less forums.

We selectively approve events on our Event Calendar, we prefer the Calendar for posting of time specific rather than the forum because then we can easily verify thier accuracy and the calendar displays them in an organized fashion. We do not allow every venue to be posted on the calendar we try to limit postings there to venues of general interest that are art related and mostly non commercial, this helps keep the Calendar clutter free and easy to read.

Yes, indeed! This is my first day on this site, and I am glad to have discovered it after living in the downtown area for 9 years now!

I think it should be a general place to list events too - arts, reading, club nights, bar happy hours & parties...Perhaps it can be called "What's Happening? Arts, Entertainment and Events in JC". I'd love to see a place where all events were listed and could be discussed, where I could jumpt to see just what was shakin' everyo single night and who was going. I think it would help us all to meet each other better too.

...much like the Restaurants & Bars category, but more focused on the downtown arts, music, and poetry scene.
