Jersey City police follow, then capture suspect on weapon charge
Friday, April 02, 2010
A Jersey City man was arrested early yesterday morning after cops watched him ditch a handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets, reports said.
At 1:17 a.m., police arrived at a Clinton Avenue funeral home after a man reported that two men had been watching him while he moved equipment into the building, reports said.
Police saw Dashawn L. Walker, 21, of Bergen Avenue, and another man quickly leave the area on foot and began following them, reports said.
The two men split up near Clinton and Bergen avenues, and Walker continued west on Lexington Avenue, reports said.
Police then observed Walker place objects under the front of a white Honda Accord.
Plainclothes officers recovered a handgun and a bag containing a controlled dangerous substance from beneath the vehicle, reports said. The other man was stopped, checked for warrants and released.
