Jersey City fire, caused by kids playing with matches, displaces family

Monday, March 29, 2010

A family had to be relocated due to a fire on Randolph Avenue in Jersey City on Saturday, officials said.

The fire, caused by children playing with matches, inflicted moderate to heavy damage throughout the first floor of the two-family building at 27 Randolph Ave., Fire Director Armando Roman.

Called in at 4:58 p.m., the fire was under control by 5:15 p.m., Roman said.

The fire originated in a bedroom at the rear of the house. The displaced family was taken in by relatives, Roman said.
