A Jersey City Heights resident told police she had to dive for cover when a man opened fire on three of her neighbors early yesterday, but police spoke to two of the men she said were targeted and they denied knowing anything about it, reports said.
At 2:59 a.m., police responded to Thorne Street off Summit Avenue and the 43-year-old resident said she was walking to her car when a man got out of a red Honda and fired three shots at three men who had just left a nearby building, reports said.
The woman said she dove into an alley when the gunfire erupted and she heard the three men who were targeted running back toward their building, reports said.
Police said they were familiar with two of the men the resident said were targeted, but both denied any involvement and said no shots had been fired, reports said.
Police asked residents who had come to their windows if they heard shots and none said they had, reports said. The woman's husband said he heard three shots from inside their apartment, but said he did not see the gunman or driver, reports said.
Police searched the area for the vehicle but came up empty, reports said.
