Car crash, foot chase leads to Jersey-City teen's arrest Tuesday, February 02, 2010
A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Jersey City Sunday night after a car crash, foot chase, and tussle with officers, reports said.
Police tried to pull over the 16-year-old teen, who was driving a Maxima, at 11:03 p.m., after he turned from Johnston Avenue onto Halladay Street without signaling, reports said.
But the Erie Street teen jumped out of his still-moving car, allowing it to crash into two parked cars, and ran into a second floor apartment on Halladay Street and hid in a closet, reports said.
After cops gained entry to the apartment, the teen knocked two officers to the ground, causing a minor injury to one of the officers, reports said.
As the cops tried to cuff the boy, a 15-year-old girl in the apartment started hitting the officers, reports said.
The boy then ran out of the apartment, but other officers caught up with him, reports said.
Officers found 37 glass vials of suspected cocaine, 46 small bags of suspected heroin, and $91 in cash in the boy's jacket, reports said.
The 15-year-old girl was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and obstruction of law.
