Halloween arrest: Car crashes into cemetery

Monday, November 02, 2009

A 34-year-old Jersey City driver was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed into Bayview Cemetery on Halloween and the front end of his car came to a rest on top of a tombstone.

The driver Stanley Brown, 34, of Princeton Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of controlled dangerous substance, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, bail jumping, and endangering the welfare of a 10-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car, Jersey City Police spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez said.

Police were called to Garfield and Cator avenues on the report of serious accident at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, where they found a 1998 silver Ford Taurus Sedan wedged between a fence and a wall with part of it resting atop a tombstone, reports said.

Brown appeared unresponsive and trapped in the driver seat, reports said.

The driver appeared highly intoxicated with bloodshot eyes and was slurring his words, reports said.

Two bags of suspected marijuana laced with PCP were found on the passenger side of car, reports said. None of the passengers were seriously injured, police said.
