Jersey City man whose son, girlfriend were kidnapped is accused of ramming police cars, drug crimes

The Jersey City man whose girlfriend and son were kidnapped from this home on Clarke Avenue has been arrested.
The Jersey City drug dealer whose son and girlfriend were kidnapped by armed men demanding drugs and money on Sunday was arrested yesterday after throwing cocaine out of his car window and ramming two police cars, officials said.

After a chase, 40-year-old Rashard Servance, of Clark Avenue, was arrested by Jersey City cops at the Bayonne border and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding police, resisting arrest and drug counts including drug possession with intent to distribute near a school, reports said.

On Sunday, Servance had arrived at his home at 4:30 p.m. and was confronted by three men armed with at least one machine gun who bound and blindfolded him and over the course of two hours demanded he turn over money and drugs, police said.

The men eventually left, taking Servance's 24-year-old son and girlfriend, but police said the pair were "recovered" the next day.

At 4:25 a.m. yesterday, officers on patrol had spotted a blue 1996 four-door Buick Century double park on Williams Avenue and two occupants start trying to get into parked cars, reports said.

The men got back into the car and sped away with the officers pursuing with lights and siren on, reports said.

The Buick ran traffic lights and headed for the Turnpike where the pursuit was called off, police said.

At 4:35 p.m. officers in an unmarked car spotted the Buick on Clarke Avenue and turned on the flashing lights and siren but Servance "purposely accelerated" and rammed the police car before fleeing, reports said. Numerous police cars joined the high speed chase onto Route 440 where took the West 63rd Street exit at the Bayonne border and suddenly pulled over on the overpass, reports said.

When a marked car pulled beside the Buick, Servance accelerated and sideswiped the cruiser before driving a short distance and stopping again, reports said, adding that he kicked and punched at officers who then took him into custody, reports said.

During the chase Servance tossed "numerous" vials of suspected cocaine out of the vehicle on Yale Avenue and discarded more than 30 as the chase continued, reports said.

Servance made his first appearance on the charges in Central Judicial Processing Court this morning via video link form Hudson County jail in Kearny. His bail could not be set because he is out on bail and pending sentencing on a previous eluding charge, officials said.

He was in prison from June 30, 1989 to Dec. 2, 1998 on a convictions for bribery, and eight counts of drug distribution, according to corrections records.

Police would not provide additional information and said the investigation is very active.

INTRUDERS WITH GUNS KIDNAP 2

Three armed men kidnapped a woman and man from a Jersey City home yesterday at around 4:30 p.m., officials said.

Three men with shotguns entered a Jersey City home on Clarke Avenue near West Side Avenue and tied a man up, said Jersey City Police spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez. It is unclear how the intruders got into the house.

They then stole his Mercedes and drove away with his girlfriend and 24-year-old son as captives, he said.

Martinez said the gray Mercedes has New York plates but had no further details last night.
