This is more common than we hear about because often the thieves posing as cops are watching the victim for a time and they really DO have drugs or something else illegal, so the victim doesn't report it. These idiots also try to hit up prostitutes for free sex.

View Larger Map Impostor cops beat, rob man, search car Friday, October 09, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Three armed men wearing badges and claiming to be police officers assaulted a Jersey City man on Wednesday and searched his car, demanding to know where the drugs were, officials said. The 28-year-old Arlington Avenue victim said that when he pulled over to answer his cell phone at Chopin Place and Montgomery Street at 7:18 p.m., three men approached his car and pointed handguns at him, reports said. Advertisement One of them trained his gun from the driver's side window and yelled "Get out of the car! Police!" while a second aimed at the victim from the passenger side window and the third through the rear windshield, reports said. One of the men threw the victim on the ground and knelt on his back, demanding to know, "Where are the drugs," reports said, adding that the victim said "I don't have any drugs." When asked where he lived, the victim said Arlington Avenue, but the man holding him down told the victim he was lying, punched him in the face, and took his wallet, reports said. After they searched the car, including emptying the glove compartment and pulling a panel out of the dash board, one of the men walked to the corner and then returned, saying, "Let him go, let him go," reports said, adding that the men then ran away. The victim said they spoke Spanish, reports said. A security guard stationed nearby told police he saw three men fitting the description and thought they were narcotics officers, reports said. The guard said all three men had black handguns and he saw a badge around one man's neck, reports said. The men told the guard, "We are police officers, step back," reports said. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Jersey City Police Department tip line at (201) 217-2431.
