Witness leads cops to much-convicted burglar
Tuesday, May 19, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A Jersey City man who has already served four prison terms was arrested Friday on burglary charges after he was fingered by a witness, officials said. Jose R. Rosario, 39, of Highland Avenue near Van Reypen Street, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. at Tonnelle Avenue and Secaucus Road on charges of theft, burglary and possession of burglary tools, reports said. Sent to a Tonnelle Avenue building on reports of a burglary in progress, police were flagged down by the victim's neighbor, who pointed out Rosario walking down the street, reports said. After police handcuffed Rosario, they found suspected burglary tools in his pockets, as well as a watch, camera and cash the 46-year-old victim identified as his property, reports said. Police suspect that several electronic devices and a large amount of change found in Rosario's backpack were also burglary proceeds, reports said. Rosario was in state prison from March 7, 2003 to Sept. 22, 2003, Jan. 22, 2004 to Sept. 1, 2004, March 30, 2005 to Sept. 28, 2006 and Nov. 20, 2006 to Feb. 20, 2009, state corrections officials said. The sentences were for seven burglary convictions and a conviction for aggravated assault, corrections officials said.
