I'm glad to hear the neighbor at least didn't blame the driver. Bergen Ave. is a huge problem with pedestrians.

Car slams little boy into SUV

A boy about 6 or 7 years old was struck by a car on Boyd Avenue off Bergen Avenue in Jersey City yesterday afternoon and was rushed to the hospital, according to witnesses.

Firefighters washed blood off the street as the boy's small sneakers were still in the street behind the Nissan Stanza that hit him.

The boy darted into the street from behind a parked SUV, said Jarette Vance, who saw the incident unfold while sitting on his porch.

Vance said the Nissan slammed the boy into the SUV and the boy went down in a heap.

"It hurt my heart. I don't want to see anything like that," Vance said. "The driver didn't have time to react."

Vance said the boy was taken away unconscious.

The boy's family, who lives down the block, didn't want to comment.

Police hadn't issued a report as of early this morning.
