The attackers -- asking the victim where he was from -- speaks volumes.

It is common practice for gang members to shoot someone in the butt if they don't want to accidently murder them -- there are no major organs there. They do this so they won't go down for murder if they are caught. It is meant to send a message to the person shot and also to other members of the person's gang.

BTW: I'm NOT saying that this victim is a gang member -- innocent people are very often the victims of gangs.

A 15-year-old Jersey City boy was given a beating and shot on a Greenville street corner by a group of boys who wanted to know where he was from and what he was doing in their neighborhood, reports said.

The Stevens Avenue boy was treated Wednesday night at the Jersey City Medical Center for several gunshot wounds to his lower back and buttocks, reports said.

The boy said he was walking with a friend at Atlantic Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive at 8:22 p.m. when several males from Salem Lafayette Court approached them and questioned him about where he was from and what he was doing there, reports said.

The victim said several more males from the same area came out of a store at the corner and they began attacking him. He was knocked to the ground and heard about five shots ring out, reports said.
