Bergen Lafayette: Teen shot in face during p.m. stickup

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the face Thursday night while standing on a front porch on Carteret Avenue, but only suffered a non-life-threatening injury, police said yesterday.

The teen first told cops that someone riding in a dark sedan had shot him with a rifle, then changed his story, saying it was an unidentified man "lurking in the shadows" across the street, according to reports.

The victim was talking to the man shortly after 11 p.m. when the assailant pulled out a rifle and yelled, "Give up your wallet and Walkman," reports said.

As the teen ran toward his Randolph Avenue home - without giving up anything - he was shot just under the left cheek, with the bullet exiting the left side of his neck, police said.

He was treated at Jersey City Medical Center and released, reports said.

A 15-year-old boy of Jersey City was shot in the leg Friday night after continuing a verbal dispute despite being threatened with a handgun, police said.

According to reports, the boy was walking with two other males at Claremont and Rose avenues between 8:30 and 9 p.m. when he got into an argument, reports said.

One of the males took out a small silver handgun and said, "Think I won't shoot you?"

But the boy continued arguing - and then was shot in the upper left leg, reports said. The two males fled.

The boy was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center and treated for the non-life threatening injury, police said.

Greenville: Bullet hole remains after deli robbery

Two masked robbers held up a Jersey City deli at gun-point Thursday night, leaving behind a bullet hole in the wall and two shaken men, police said.

Police responded to a holdup alarm at Augie's Deli, 325 Old Bergen Rd., at 10 p.m. and were told by the owner and his brother that two men had pointed guns at them and demanded cash from the register, reports said.

One of the robbers approached the counter and fired one shot past the owner and into the wall behind him, police said.

The men took about $100 and two boxes of cigars, reports said.

Greenville: 24-year-old shot in leg after drive-by

A 24-year-old Jersey City man was shot in the leg Friday evening in an apparent drive-by shooting on Neptune Avenue, police reports said.

The man told police he was walking east toward Ocean Avenue when he observed a black Nissan Maxima with tinted windows driving west toward Old Bergen Road.

As the vehicle approached the victim, he heard two to three gunshots and was shot in the left leg near the knee, reports said.

The vehicle fled the scene, and the victim was treated at Jersey City Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the incident.

Argument leads to stabbing in Greenville

A Jersey City man was stabbed in the hand and back yesterday morning after a verbal argument turned physical, police said.

The 31-year-old male victim was near Curries Woods, police said, when he and another man became involved in a verbal argument which escalated and became physical. The man told another person to "go get the burner" and the person left the area, reports said.

The victim also left the area and was standing on Kennedy Boulevard between Neptune and Seaview avenues when the man he had argued with pulled up in a black Honda Civic, exited and stabbed the victim in the left hand and left side of his back, reports said.

The victim was treated at Jersey City Medical Center.
