There is still a listing for the Tunnel Diner (184 Boyle Plaza) online with three reviews. Based on the three reviews they gave it four stars.

Just curious. what was so special about this place ?

I liked the food there. It was open 24 hours and yes, I know there are other 24 hour places to eat in JC but this place was great - I like diners and it was convenient to where I lived. Not to mention that it truly met the definition of a "diner" - not just the fact that it was open 24 hours, breakfast available anytime AND not part of a chain BUT judging from the inside and outside structures, once upon a time it was truly a diner car on a train. There's nothing like eating in a place like that - for me anyway. Places like that are disappearing faster than the ozone layer.

So sad. CBS AM 880 used to do their "man-on-the-street" interviews there after big events.

The writing was on the wall--most of the letters on the neon sign out front had long since burnt out.

Dunno how but the adjoined malt liquor store is still in biz...

Constant visits by junkies using their bathroom to shoot up.

They charged a buck for a use of bath room.

I know the place is (or was) normally 24 hours, so would someone like to confirm my fear that they have closed ?

If this is old news, forgive me, but I searched the forum already and can't find anything about this.

It did close. I believe the owner sold the place back in November.

So I'm out last night looking for late night grub after a long night in the city, and I drive by the Tunnel Diner, which I've always liked and its all closed up and dark, and the parking lot blocked off.
