Q: I own a small mortgage firm in downtown Manhattan. We specialize in subprime mortgages and loans that have been made to borrowers who don't have the best credit ratings. My company has been losing a lot of money, and I'm thinking of moving my offices to Jersey City to cut costs. Is it worth leaving the Financial District, and is it worth the commute?

A: Commercial rents in Jersey City have been inching up, but they're still $14 per foot cheaper than rents in downtown Manhattan. Don't think about it too long though; space in Jersey City is disappearing, and most office buildings are already 90%
