I saw a really cute house for sale on Whiton St. Unfortunately it seems a bit overpriced for the area imo

I grew up in central NJ and I pretty much have to get in the car all the time now. At least this would be less of a drive for me.
I'd also like to be closer LSP. I like Grove St. VVP and HP, but I don't work in the city so I'm not sure how convenient that would be for me to have to get to the NJTP or to find parking. In my current neighborhood, I'm the youngest person by about 25 years excluding my neighbors' children. I don't need to be so much in the hub of things, but I'd like to be close enough where it's a little more convenient.

Agree with Dan L. One of the major reasons we sold our house there was because we were always getting in the car and going downtown for everything. It's a great place for investment purposes, but the neighborhood doesnt' have much to offer. I have a friend who has lived there since before the light rail was built, and she doesn't mind getting in the car all the time. I guess it's just a personal choice.

has some discussion on this area, some think its going to "pop", but it is not a "middle class" neighborhood ... yet and I commented before that most friends that live there drive elsewhere for basic shopping, services and recreation. if you want to rest your head there fine, but if you are looking for more think twice. This is not a criticism of Lafayette which is a historic area with wonderful residents, but if your looking for a walkable urban neighborhod or the next great place its not there.

I lived on Lafayette St. a few years ago, and I have to agree with Newlafayette. The area around the park/playground area is sketchy. A lot of dodgey people hang -out around the playground, making noise with their cars and loud radios, etc.....and when they have some sort of block party celebration there, you'll want to avoid being near there at all costs.'
I think you're a little better off South of there, like where NewLafayette lives. Whiton's a pretty quiet street where he is.

I live on Whiton between Lafayette and Maple. I walk around at all hours, but I avoid the blocks around the park on Johnston, meaning when I go to the light rail i walk down maple then cross over monitor to johnston, the blocks of johnston between pine and whiton are sketchy. But I moved here from Monmouth/4th downtown and it is MUCH quieter here than it was there.

Can anyone familiar with the area tell me what they think about the area near Whiton and Johnston?
I know newlafayette mentioned not going north of Pacific. What the east/west boundaries be considered?
