Smashed by falling pipe saving coworker
Saturday, June 09, 2007
By BERNETTE PEARSON
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

A Jersey City construction worker was struck in the head by a pipe while saving a fellow worker from it yesterday, a police report said. The victim, bleeding profusely from his mouth and nose, was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, the report said.

At about 1 p.m. the injured worker was speaking with his co- worker at the D'Annuzzo and Son construction site at 13th and Monmouth streets.

When workers - who were demolishing concrete as part of the 14th Street viaduct project - yelled down to them that the pipe was falling, the victim, 44, pushed the other worker out of the way, the report said. The victim didn't have time to get out of the way, however.

The victim was wearing a hard hat, the report said. Last night his condition was unknown.
