Two more juvenile males charged in fatal stabbing of Jersey City man
Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal Two more juveniles, one from Jersey City and the other from Brooklyn, have been charged in the apparently gang-related stabbing death of a 21-year-old city man, and there could be more arrests in the near future, according to prosecutors.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said today that a 16-year-old boy formerly of Jersey City turned himself into authorities last night, while a 15-year-old Grace Street boy was arrested in Jersey City. They have both been charged with murder, DeFazio said.

The arrests follow two previous arrests in connection to the Feb. 9 homicide of Victor Martinez, 21, of Waverly Street. Joel Santos, 18, of Palisade Avenue, was nabbed Sunday while trying to board a flight to the Dominican Republic, while a 15-year-old Dickinson High School student was arrested soon after the fatal stabbing.

DeFazio said last week that authorities believe the killing was gang-related. All suspects are being charged? with murder.

?They're all considered to be accomplices of each other,? he said today.

Authorities have said Santos stabbed Martinez multiple times with a machete-like knife during a fight at Prospect Street and Palisade Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. last Wednesday. The attack continued as Martinez ran to his home, and he later died at Christ Hospital, according to authorities.

DeFazio has previously said his office plans to ask that the initial suspect arrested be prosecuted as an adult, subjecting him to a potentially far more lengthy term of incarceration if convicted. Today, DeFazio said his office is still considering whether to ask the same of the suspects arrested yesterday. They have 30 days to decide.

A conviction on murder charges as a juvenile carries a possible sentence up to 20 years in prison with no minimum time that must be served before becoming eligible for parole. Conviction on murder charges as an adult carries a sentence of 30 years to life.

A Family Court judge will make the final decision about whether to try the juvenile suspects as adults.

Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office's Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345.
