Singer and photographer Virginia Kamenitzer was set to be one of the women featured at "Rock, Hop and Jingle," a celebration of Jersey City-based Ladies on the Mic's two-year anniversary. The event was set for Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at Paul Vincent Studios and Gallery, 49 Harrison St., Hoboken.
Jersey City-based performance series Ladies on the Mic will celebrate two years of giving women a stage to shine with an event dubbed "Rock Hop and Jingle" at Paul Vincent Studios in Hoboken Sunday.
"We've generated a lot of interest in women that have been fearful of performing in front of people," said founder Beth Achenbach. "There's something about having just women performing that makes them willing to put themselves up there."
At Rock Hop and Jingle, performers and spectators alike will celebrate the success of the series, which has been held in various Jersey City venues like its birthplace Made with Love Artisan Bakery and Cafe, Art House Productions and Grace Church Van Vorst.
While the series usually features a mix of music and poetry, the Hoboken event will mainly showcase the musical talents of many locals like hip-hop chanteuse J. Ross Parrelli, artist/singer Virginia Kamentizer and others. There will also be a burlesque peformance by Philadelphia's Jill Heydet (also known as "Sinnamon"), a comedic interpretation of "The Nutcracker" by local artist Beth Bentley and more.
