Police say Jersey City man stabs wife twice in the stomach in their Downtown home, then drives her to hospital

A Jersey City man stabbed his wife twice in the stomach and then drove her to the hospital to be treated Monday night, Jersey City police said.

The man, 50, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, reports said.

His 38-year-old wife was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center and released, police said. The man's name is being withheld to protect the victim's identity.

The victim's brother called police to the Jersey Avenue home at 9:30 p.m. and told them that his sister had been stabbed by her husband, and they had left for the hospital.

Police found the man outside the Medical Center and arrested him, police said, adding that splattered blood was found in the bedroom of the home.

The couple's two children, boys 8 and 12 years old, were in the home when their mother was stabbed, but police don't believe they witnessed it, reports said.
