View Larger Map Gun shots wound two Jersey City men Friday Monday, March 21, 2011 Two Jersey City men were shot in the area of Rutgers and Chapel avenues Friday night and both men told police they didn't see who shot them, reports said. Responding to the sound of seven to eight gunshots at around 10 p.m., cops encountered a 26-year-old Rutgers Avenue man who said he was sitting on the front steps of his house when he heard gunfire and started running, reports said. The man said he started to feel pain and then realized he had been shot in his left buttock, reports said. The man said he was looking down the entire time so he never saw who shot him, reports said. While waiting for the ambulance to leave the area, a 22-year-old resident of Pine Street walked up to the officers and told them that he had just been shot as well, reports said. The 22-year-old lifted his shirt and revealed a bullet wound in his upper chest, reports said. The second victim told cops he heard several gunshots, started running, and was near Rutgers and Cator avenues when he realized he had been hit by a bullet, reports said. Similar to the 26-year-old, he told police he didn't see who was firing, reports said. Both men were transported to the Jersey City Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and released, reports said. Police found three .45-caliber shell casings and three bullet fragments in the area of Rutgers and Chapel, reports said. KEN THORBOURE
